Falmer Campus, Westlain House Teaching Provision Project Status: Completed
Westlain House has been constructed over three levels to provide approximately 3300m2 of accommodation for teaching, a 250 seat lecture theatre, restaurant, cafeteria, bar, fast food outlet and open office space for the Institute of Nursing & Midwifery.
Generally, the building is naturally ventilated with automatic opening windows assisting air movement via the building management system control. For the Lecture Theatre, comfort cooling and mechanical fresh air ventialtion have been provided, with the latter also utilised for the kitchen, cafeteria, bar, fast food and toilets. The building is heated by means of radiators.
With the open ceiling design, uplighting is the main form of artificial lighting to supplement the high level of natural daylight. Offices & teaching spaces are flood wired for power and data/voice provision and an innovative audio visual system has been provided in the lecture theatre.
